Palm Trees and Paradise- Exploring the essence of Goa

As far back as my earliest memories, the allure of Goa has been etched into my narrative. One of my initial childhood getaways unfolded in this coastal haven, and the recollection is as clear as the tranquil blue waters that cradled me in a nostalgic duck floaty. My family and I visit Goa twice a year; it feels like we've discovered a new part of it every time.

From its quant Portuguese streets, to fish markets, countless beaches, each with its own uniqueness and the everchanging restaurant landscape, Goa never fails to impress us. The content and welcoming locals, eager to share the treasures of their city with tourists, contribute significantly to the irresistible charm of this little state.

Goa, previously a Union Territory and now a proud State, is relatively much smaller and has two main divisions, the North and the South. While the North part of Goa is known for its party scenes, casinos and bars; the South has large resorts, quiet beaches and a peaceful stillness. My family and I always prefer going to the South, although we visit the North at least once during most of our trips. In the North, Asagao has some of the fanciest bungalows, restaurants, cafes and boutiques and is a wonderful place to grab some unique items.

Goa's culinary landscape extends far beyond its beaches. Although it now has some of the finest restaurants in the world, the true experience lies in eating authentic local food. Goan food is rich in coconut curries, fish and prawn delicacies and their seafood thali. Eating at local family restaurants like Vinayak and Spice Goa during my trips there is a non-negotiable for my family and me. Every time we go here, we try to experience something new and out of the ordinary. During my recent December trip to Goa, we ventured to a Beach Club, where the simple pleasure of feeling the sand between our toes and taking leisurely dips in the ocean transformed into an unexpectedly heightened experience. While these activities may seem mundane elsewhere, there's an inexplicable magic in Goa that elevates even the ordinary.

It's not easy to explain the magical hold that Goa has over anyone who visits it. So, come with an open heart and an empty stomach, and see for yourself!

Sincerely,
Sara
